Painting with Canvas Artist Spotlight!
What inspires you to paint/create?
It's a great outlet for many things. But especially now a days, when everything is based on technology and we become easily consumed and distracted by Facebook and twitter and instagram etc, it's nice to remember my inherent ability to make something with my own hands.
How long have you been creating?
I've been creating and practicing art of all kinds since I was little. My favorite thing to do when I was younger, besides being outside and riding my bike was getting out the craft box at my dad's. Markers, paint, glue, glitter galore! I loved making things for other people. And that's still the same today.
How long have you been teaching?
I've been a volunteer teacher for the boys and girls club as well as an assistant instructor at the Art Station, a nonprofit art school in central Oregon for about a year. But I've always been that one student in school helping everyone else with their projects. Some people just have it in their blood!
Who is your favorite artist and why?
I love Salvador Dali. Surrealism is very interesting to me. It's based on real things and then twisted and shaped into the fanciful representations of a dream world. His art was a great inspiration to me growing up. It taught me that there was no right or wrong. A still life didn't just have to be a boring still life, and I didn't have to only paint what I saw with my eyes, but with my mind's eye as well.
What do you enjoy most about painting with Painting with Canvas?
I love art in a group setting. It's why I enjoyed going to school for art so much. A bunch of people come together with the same goal of having fun and practicing their creativity. And though we're all painting the same thing, each one comes out different, because we're all individuals and have our own perspectives to interpret. It's fascinating! And so fun.
